Subtitle comes through with a new video for “Leggings are the Style of the Day” from the “LA City Strobe” EP. Featuring the talents of Monk Relova, Amanda Kenney, Jenny Harrison, Sarah Harrell and Dani Campfield and directed by Robby Massey.
The quality of this video is very high. It comes across to me as a creepy Napoleon Dynamite considering the awkward actions of the main character and his over obsession of creeping. The sweet teen stache doesn’t hurt the mood of video either!
The Gorillaz are back (and so is Bruce Willis)! Stylo is the first single from thier new album, “Plastic Beach”, which is in stores next Tuesday. The video seems a little Tarantino-esque, which is cool, but I don’t think the song really holds it’s weight against it. Judge for yourself.
So this vid may be a little reminiscent of Sleepy Hollow or something, but the shots are amazing and the slow motion will always draw in big fans. It’s good to see that he’s still releasing videos so long after the release of 808′s and Heartbreak. I’m still a fan of this asshole. Sorry!
Brand new video from RJD2 that takes an interesting (somewhat low budget) approach. I’m not a huge fan of the song, but the video makes it somewhat better since there are R/C cars, figurines, Barbies, children’s toys and food theft. And is it just me or isn’t it funny when he runs over fake animals and crowds of people. Maybe I’m morbid? Via Sterogum
Vancouver’s The Studio Movement recently wrapped their much-anticipated short ‘Frog’, which is expected to have a successful festival run. Directed by the critically acclaimed Austin Andrews, the film has stirred great excitement in its pre-screenings.
Unfolding across five blocks and two neighbourhoods in one shot, Frog looks at the sharp turns our lives take in their youth, the fragile nature of human dependence and the difficulty of saying goodbye to a person we still have so much of ourselves stored inside. The short starts Smallville’s Allison Mack and Chad Krowchuk (Mentors, RV) star.
We go out of our way at thewackblog to avoid groups just like this one we’re not avoiding right now. Even though Die Antwoord (Die Antwoord are lead rapper NINJA (ex Max Normal), YO-LANDI VI$$ER and DJ HI-TEK.), a brand new South African band stinks like corporate agenda, fuck is Enter the Ninja an awesome video. Concept through execution. Futuristic chav ninja rap, to phat beats and dolops of no holds barred chutzpfah. This video has the same feeling as the hose scene in Julien Donkey Boy, or the incest scene in Oldboy. Check the white mice everywhere in the dark shots.
When I initially saw the cover image of this album I really hoped that the concept would be taken past just an image of a Freeway as a former President with a band around it. But this design by Brent Rollins pushed the envelope and made the design a lot more dynamic. It includes 4 Freeway Bills, 4 Jake One Bills, with lyrics and liner notes on the backsides, a wallet to stuff them into, plus a download card with the Instrumentals. Watch the above video for a demonstration.
Banksy is releasing a movie and it actually looks interesting. I’m a little surprised that Paramount would be a part of this, but then again, they’re just in it for the money. I hear Angelina Jolie really likes Banksy, so why wouldnt Paramount??

Grounded TV has just launched their new site and is full of audio and visual treats. From interviews/features with Roc Raida (R.I.P.) (above), Saul Williams, Brother Ali and Glitch Mob to just name a few. Keep returning to their site because it’s always being up dated. Here’s a little information straight from the horses mouth:
The primary purpose of Grounded TV is to write, film and edit cultural and socially relevant content for the purpose of distributing it via a web-based television network. This web-based television show sheds light on people and events that bring a positive change to our world through their music, art and social activism. The site also acts as an online community where artists and fans can connect, network and promote their projects to further the growth of this amazing social movement. Our mantra is simple: to create a positive change and support those doing the same.
The show was started and continues to be run by a group of artists and musicians in their early twenties. This young group includes artists from various genres of media, be it film, visual FX, graphic design, or generals arts, as well as rappers, DJs and musicians. This team runs Grounded TV with virtually no budget and dedicates their time to this movement while simultaneously working towards their careers and plugging away at their day jobs. Everything that is done at Grounded TV is done with love and for the purpose of further expanding the project.
